The Festival

Our objective: 

The Gateway Film Festival showcases work by high school and college-age independent filmmakers.  Local filmmakers are encouraged to submit their short movies to the Gateway Film Festival. We want to celebrate the youth's voices and visions and explore new and talented filmmakers in the area.

Mission Statement:

The Gateway Film Festival is a youth centered film festival in its second year of operation. We feature short films from college and high school students worldwide. The goal of our festival is to give young people a voice and allow their art to enrich our community. We believe in the voices of our youth, we invest in the stories they have to tell, we empower young artist to share their stories.

 

We are student run and organized event. Our festival started as a class offered to students at the Media Arts Department at Pacific University, In Oregon. Students created the festival from concept to execution, guided by professors.  Pacific University is a small liberal arts college at the center of Forest Grove, Oregon. Pacific values offering students opportunities for experiential learning, leadership, civic engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration, and the Gateway Film Festival is a perfect forum for these values.The festival is supported by the Media Arts Department as co-sponsored by a number of  departments and clubs on campus, as well as community partners. We are proud to be a platform for the creators of the future.

 

Community Connection:

We are offering an award for the film that displays the best connection with the community around them. Filmmakers are encouraged to explore their relationship and involvement with their community. If you would like your film to be eligible for judging in this category, please indicate on the form when submitting.

Directions

Pacific University’s Forest Grove Campus is located about 22 miles west of downtown Portland, off Highway 26, the Sunset Highway.

From Portland, head west on US-26 toward Seaside. Take exit 59 Jackson School Road, exit 57 Glencoe Road or the left exit for Hwy 6 – Banks/Tillamook.
